Major cycling event – exhilarating start to the year!
The New Year was welcomed in with style across South Australia. A warm night provided near perfect conditions for people of all ages to see in 2014. From Victor Harbour to Mount Gambier, Elder Park in the city to Glenelg, the atmosphere across the state was electric. Live music and great firework displays provided entertainment for thousands of people who turned out to celebrate the beginning of the New Year.
With the start of every New Year comes the excitement for some of Adelaide’s major events and celebrations.
Every January for the past 15 years South Australia hosts the first event on the world cycling calendar – the Santos Tour Down Under. From January 19 – 26 the state is alive with cycling fever. The week-long event brings top WorldTour professional cycling teams to race on the streets of Adelaide and regional South Australia. Along with world-class racing, spectators of the 2014 Tour Down Under can also enjoy a wide range of celebrations, including the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of cycling’s best. This free South Australian event is definitely a must see on the 2014 calendar.
The final stage of the Santos Tour Down Under is marked by the Australia Day national holiday.
