South Australian Government Schools Scholarship Winners!

Throughout 2013 we have been posting about our group of 100 Win the World scholarship students from Pernambuco, Brazil, who participated in a 6 month Study Abroad Program in the first half of the year. The Pernambuco state government sponsored this program that rewards academic excellence of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

You can see the students being welcomed at Adelaide Airport and on their excursion around Adelaide.

Scholarship to continue studying in South Australia

As their program drew to an end, South Australian Government Schools offered two further scholarships to these students for a further 6 months of study. Juliana and Paulo were the successful candidates and have written about their experiences of spending almost a year living and studying in Adelaide, South Australia:

Juliana

Juliana - Win the World Being an international student and living away from home, on the other side of the world, has impacted me in ways that will help my career life. Being outside of my comfort zone is a hard thing, but once we’ve got our goals and opportunities, we can’t let it slip through our fingers.

I always wanted to be an international student to improve my English but I’ve understood that being abroad has much more to do with culture and experience than simply language skills. Through this study abroad experience I’ve become more independent, and confident in myself.

Adelaide is such an amazing city and its citizens must be really proud. Everything is so perfect: education, environment, security and life style.

Living in Australia for nearly one year has given me awesome moments at school, at my homestay and knowledge about its culture. I’m sure this is one of the best experiences of my life.

Paulo

Being in another country is an amazing experience, because we learn a new culture while living there. This becomes very rewarding because we learn a lot, this changes the way we think. The exchange makes you see the world in another way; it opens your mind, which can make you grow inwardly.

I lived in Adelaide (South Australia) for ten months, and during that time I made many friends, learned English and met people from different cultures like Japan, Italian, Germany and of course Australia. The people have made my exchange one of the best things that has happened in my life.

Australia with its natural landscapes and clean streets is really fascinating, but the most interesting are the people who are very friendly and kind, and aware of what is right and wrong. It is a country where you can walk around everywhere without worry about violence or something of that kind.

I’m studying at Brighton Secondary School and since the first day the school’s staff have been very helpful, they always answered all my questions and doubts. The teachers are excellent, they give the proper attention to each student.

At the end of all this, I must not forget to thank the staff of the program WIN THE WORLD from Pernambuco for this amazing opportunity. I would also like to thank the staff of International Education Services from Adelaide South Australia for giving me the opportunity to stay in Australia for six months more and for helping me in everything I needed, and all the people I have met while studying abroad, people I will never forget. Thanks Pernambuco, Thanks Australia!

  1. hey many you are really working good. You provide scholarship to students who really need it. Some students are really brilliant but for economical problems they can not complete their higher study that time your scholarship helps them and they reach at top in their subject and became successful.
