Every year, all our international students and their host families are invited to attend South Australian Government Schools’ annual homestay picnic in Adelaide! This is a fantastic opportunity for homestay families to make connections with other homestays families and for international students to make new friends outside of their school.
This year the picnic was held in the shade of the southern Adelaide parklands next to the beautiful Himeji Gardens. Himeji is a sister city to Adelaide so we thought it was the perfect place to host the picnic.
Twenty-five homestay families and their international students attended bringing with them their picnic rugs, camp chairs and an array of interesting food for lunch.

To help families and students meet and mix, the crew from Life Be In It were there with a series of fun games that had everyone forgetting about being shy and taking part. There was a lot of laughing, falling over and smiles!
Left. Right. Left. Right…trying to stay upright on the geeta boards!
Before you can walk, you have to be able to balance on the stilts!
Have you tried Aussie quangdong ice cream?
As usual…the picnic day was very HOT, even under the shade of the big trees. To help cool everyone down, South Australian Government Schools provided Bush Tucker Ice Creams for everyone. These Aussie flavours were loved by everyone
- Wattleseed (tastes like coffee, chocolate and hazelnut)
- Quangdong (tastes like rhubarb and apricot)
- Desert Lime (tastes like…lime!)
All very delicious!
