The school holidays are almost upon us and summer is here so we will be putting our thinking caps on this holiday season to give you some great ideas for fun activities!
During summer we all love to be outdoors and what better way to enjoy the sunny weather than at one of South Australia’s beautiful beaches. There are lots of great things to see and do along our coastline, so gather your friends and family together and head beach-way!
Semaphore Summer Carnival
The Semaphore Summer Carnival makes for an exciting day out and has something for everyone. Running every day of the school holidays (except Christmas Day), the carnival is located at the corner of the Esplanade and Semaphore Road and starts from 11.00am each morning.
There is so much to experience at the carnival! From thrill rides and dodgem cars to bungy trampolines and water slides – lots of laughter and fun to be had. Take a seat on the Foreshore Ferris Wheel, have a round of mini golf or try your luck on the sideshow where everybody wins a prize! You can also put your feet up, relax and enjoy the seaside views on the Semaphore Steam Train – a two kilometre ride along the coast from Semaphore Jetty to Fort Glanville and back.
Add to this a picturesque location, sun, surf and sand and you have yourself a perfect carnival family atmosphere for all to enjoy.
While you are there, don’t forget to have a stroll along Semaphore Road to explore the shops, grab a bite to eat or catch a movie.
Jetty Road and Glenelg
Jetty Road is a major tourism and shopping precinct located south-west of Adelaide, set against popular Glenelg beachfront. A half hour tram ride from the city, this attraction is a must do in the summer months.
As well as visiting the beach, there are many sights you can see and events you can go along to during your school holidays. Choose from a number of walks, learn about the suburb’s history at the Bay Discovery Centre, have some fun at The Beachouse or experience a short sailing cruise where you can swim with dolphins!
If you enjoy your sports, there are lots of sporting events on along the foreshore which you can watch including beach volleyball, beach handball, open water swims and the athletics Bay Sheffield Carnival.
You may also like to take a stroll down Jetty Road and pop into its many restaurants, cafes or shops where you’ll be sure to find plenty of souvenirs!
Victor Harbor is located on the coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, 80 kilometres south of Adelaide, and a favoured holiday destination for many visitors. There are plenty of fun outdoor activities you can do, and wildlife you can see all in a day’s trip!
Take the famous Horsedrawn Tram to Granite Island, home to little penguins. Here, you can go on a night guided penguin tour and watch the cute animals in their natural habitat! Tours depart at approximately 9.00pm every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and are $7.50 for children and $12.50 for adults.
Located in the heart Victor Harbor is the popular South Australian Whale Centre – a must see stop! Have a look through their Interpretive Centre or find out more about their education programs and tours.
