The Royal Adelaide Show is here!
Held at the Adelaide Showground, just outside the Adelaide city CBD, it is the biggest community event in South Australia and runs for 9 days at the beginning of September attracting people from all over the state.
Origins of the Show
The first ‘Show’ was held in 1840 when The South Australian Agricultural Society was formed and was an agricultural and horticultural event “for the advancement of agricultural and pastoral knowledge, and to promote the development of the natural resources of our noble Colony” Royal Adelaide Show, www.theshow.com.au
In 2012, the Show now boasts over 42 competitive sections for community members to exhibit anything from animals to art and craft, cookery and food, whip cracking to woodcutting. People enter their category for the chance to be named a first place winner at The Royal Adelaide Show!
Is there more to the Show than animals and cakes?? Of course there is!
At the Show you will be drawn to the
- Carnival – Everybody’s favourite sideshows will be at the Carnival for you to test your skills and win the big prizes!
- Rides – Line up and get ready to scream or laugh on your favourite rides
- Showbags – buy up big in the Wayville Pavilion with over 300 different showbags to choose from
- Pavilions – your challenge is to visit ALL of the stalls in ALL of the pavilions!
Follow the Yellow Brick Road – a Show tradition
A great way to conquer the challenge of seeing all of the show is to follow the Yellow Brick Road!
Pick up you your empty Yellow Brick Road showbag and head off to fill it with goodies from the stalls marked on the Yellow Brick Road map. This showbag has a focus on local produce and good health so don’t expect to find lollies and chocolate stops on your map (visit the Wayville Pavillion for that!)
See you there!
