February is Festival Time for the Festival State!

This month, many of our local and international communities are coming together in celebration of their culture and the New Year. While festivals of all kinds are held throughout the year, February and March are busy months in Adelaide and South Australia as we welcome people from all walks of life to join in the festivities!

Multicultural SA has an events calendar which you can look at for all upcoming events. This calendar is updated as new events come up and provides you with running times, locations and contact details for more information. Simply click on a date on the calendar to see more!

Carnevale Italian Festival

Carnevale Italian Festival

Carnevale was held last weekend at the Adelaide Showground, proving to be the biggest and best yet. The festival included two days and nights of traditional Italian food, good wine, entertainment, fashion parades, music, competitions and luxury cars. If you missed out, don’t worry – you don’t need to wait until next year to experience a side of Italy in Adelaide; just head to one of Adelaide’s many Italian restaurants to curb your pizza and pasta cravings!

Adelaide Fringe

Adelaide Fringe 2013Running across February and March each year, the Adelaide Fringe is an open-access arts festival welcoming anyone with a show, exhibition of cultural event to take part. This event is Australia’s largest arts festival and one of the most diverse in the world, with artists coming from interstate and across the globe to entertain audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Garden of Unearthly Delights

Cabaret, comedy, circus, dance, film, theatre, puppetry, music, visual art and design are only some of the acts you can see and with a program of 900 events, it might be hard to choose! The Adelaide Fringe caters for all so be sure to look through the program – some events are even free including entry to the must see Garden of Unearthly Delights!

On Friday 15 February, a huge parade of fantastic floats and Fringe artists will walk King William Street to mark the opening night and the beginning of the Adelaide Fringe. Pre-Parade entertainment starts from 7.00pm with the Parade starting at 8.00pm – get in early to get a good spot!

The Adelaide Fringe will be running from Friday 15 February to Sunday 17 March.

Adelaide 2013 Lunar New Year Street Party

Chinatown in AdelaideMake your way to Gouger Street this Saturday 16 February to experience a mixture of great food, music and entertainment as we celebrate Adelaide’s largest Lunar New Year Party and the Year of the Snake.

This is the first year the street will be closed for the event as the city makes room for 30 groups of performers, lion dances, free family friendly activities and stalls galore. All of our Asian cultures will be represented and we encourage you to go along and enjoy in the fun – there will be certainly be something for everyone!

Brazil Film Festival

Brazil Film FestivalRunning from Thursday 21 February to Sunday 24 February at the Mercury Cinema on Morphett Street is the annual Brazil Film Festival. This year there is a range of films suitable for all ages, sure to take you on a journey and show you the beauty of Brazil and its people.

Pre-movie entertainment has been organised for each night including the popular Las Chicas Bomba dancing group who welcomed our Brazilian students at the Adelaide International Airport earlier this month! Las Chicas Bomba will be performing on the evening of Friday 22 February.
